Don’t watch the clock; Do what it does.
Is it a myth or truth? Is it laziness, or lack of time? Is it an excuse to stretch my mind to get on writing? Or am I stuck with the resistance?
Am I the victim of procrastination? I have no idea whatever it is…Somehow, I am postponing to sit and write. But this is the situation that made me write a blog on self-criticism. So, I have decided not to blame myself or the situation around me. I am asking myself to pick it up from wherever I left it and get on to the writing journey.
There are many instances where we start something and get caught with different aspects of life and miss to continue the work. It could be due to diversions, or the situations, tiredness, laziness, change in interests or priorities of that day/time. Whatever the reason to pause or stop, we can get started at any time and carry on.
Let’s take an easy example where we would try for some time and tend to give up.
One fine day you get started with a weight loss goal. Plan your diet, plan your exercise, and get started! Enthusiasm to control food and work out hard would be high in the beginning.
Gradually the situation changes. When work and family commitments take over the priority, focus on work-out, diets come down. If you are tired due to excess work, then it becomes difficult to control food and carry on with the exercise. It may be some minor sickness to self or someone in the family, the priority changes. Or you may have to attend some parties or travel outside where you can not count your calories. So you may skip exercise or healthy foods on some days, push yourself extra on another day.
These irregularities could adversely impact the expected results. You may conclude, exercise or the diet are not helping to reach the goal. Or may feel that you are not capable of sticking to the plan and quit. Whenever you think of that goal, it is quite common to get into the loop of self-criticism or self-victimization.
What would you do? You know what to do and are interested in implementing it. However, caught up with resistance to keep it going on. As a Welsh proverb says, the more the hurry, the more the obstacles. Take it slow.
Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
So whatever the situation is, where ever you are, if you wish to continue it is possible to get back from where you have left and keep going. It is quite common to lose track in the hustle and bustle of the daily chores. With the courage to move on, patience to continue, and the will power to sustain, you could get back to the path.
Most of the time, we think that hearing about successful people and their habits could put us on a higher trajectory. Only when we try to follow their advice and stick to them longer, we realize the difficulties in doing so. Need to remember that whatever the advice we receive, the daily habits mentioned and their success did not happen overnight. We see the result alone and miss to acknowledge the struggles or ups and downs behind it.
Let whatever be your goal, improvement in health, wealth, career, fitness, education, travel, hobbies; remember to pick it up where you have left and keep going. Obstacles do not block the path, they are the path. Proceed and move towards success.
