Each one can reach one

We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.

Ronald Regan

I was reading a short Zen story.

Once, two travelers lost their way in the desert. They were hungry, thirsty, and too tired to walk any further. Eventually, they reached an intimidating wall-like structure, camouflaged among the dunes and difficult to recognize from a distance.

After observing closely, they heard the sound of a waterfall and birds singing on the other side of the wall. One traveler climbed over and disappeared down the other side. The other, instead, returned to the desert to help other lost travelers find their way to the oasis.

It may not be possible to lend a hand to everyone. However, we can still show kindness and support when someone needs it. If each one helps one, what would our world look like?

Helping others is good for them—and it makes us happier too. There’s a saying: “Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear, and the blind can see.” That’s the power of kindness.

What do you think? Help doesn’t have to be life-changing. It could be as simple as offering a smile, lending an ear to someone who needs to talk, being a voice for someone who cannot speak for themselves, sharing a light moment, donating something you no longer need, or any other small act you can easily do.

Are you ready to help someone in need?
